Doing Business With Fusion Countries

Fusion Capital is headquartered in Kenya, and seeks to serve SMEs within the East African Community.

The East African Community (EAC) was established in 1999 between Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania before Rwanda and Burundi also joined in 2007. The combined population of the EAC is over 125 million people, with a combined GDP of $60 billion. The aim of the EAC is to widen and deepen the political, economic and social co-operation among partner states. This has resulted in establishing a customs union in 2005 and the signing in November 2009 of a treaty to create a common market with the removal of all trade tariffs in 2010. There are also plans for a monetary union by 2012, with the ultimate aim of establishing a Political Federation of the East African States.5 The continued development of the EAC will increase the opportunities for Kenya to export within the region and, importantly, will support the development of international trade and investment with other global regions.
